Phoenix Robles (b) 1984, is a Brooklyn-based fine art photographer and photo-documentarian. Primarily utilizing a hybrid method within her photography, Often combing written narratives in an essay or free verse form format addressing topics that are traditionally taboo narratives. Her images seek to examine the socio-cultural importance of these narratives.
Her self-portrait documentary series Black Girl with the Blues (2017), utilizes the first-person perspective to begin to capture the active detriment of domestic violence & depression on mental health. Within her street photography, she often seeks to capture the hidden parts of communities that are often silenced. Pairing her images with free-verse prose or essays, her work seeks to create insightful and introspective moments between image and viewer.
"Those are the special moments in photography- when empathy and a connection are created between the viewer and subject of different demographics and ideals through excellent visual storytelling. I love that about photography."-Phoenix Robles
